On Thursday the 27th of September the four transition year classes went on an excursion to the National Ploughing Championships in Co. Wexford. After a cramped two and a half hour journey on the bus down to Wexford we began to get quite eager to explore the hundreds of stalls selling farming equipment and machinery, toys, clothes and electronics. We all split off into smaller groups and began to wander around the huge festival.
Within ten minutes of arriving I found myself almost knee-deep in wet mud in a tent full of different breeds of cattle and all their prizes and medals. After having enough of the foul smelling tent, I wandered over to a small carnival situated on the outskirts of the festival. After the trek through the wet mud, that some how managed to seep through my wellies, I was in no frame of mind to be going on stomach churning rollercoasters. After watching people scream on the rollercoasters and getting a small bit of amusement out of their petrified faces, we all moved on towards the lingering smell of food in the air coming from the Eddie Rocket's van all away across the next field that was full of tractors ploughing the land.
After filling ourselves back up we began to wander through the stalls of clothes, teddies, model tractors and more farming equipment and eventually came into the motor section of the festival with show rooms of BMWs Skoda's Audis Minis and Toyotas all showing off their recently released cars and demonstrating them on dirt tracks. Top Gear were also present and had a Bugatti Veron simulator with them, unfortunately none of us knew how to drive a car so we couldn't have a go in it.
